Serve

"If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you."

John 13:17

Jesus, the King of Kings, demonstrated true greatness by washing the disciples' feet, redefining greatness as an act of humility and service rather than power. In the same way, we too are called to gladly assume sacrificial responsibility to serve one another.

Key Biblical Principles of Gospel-Shaped Service:

  1. Starts with Seeing: You cannot serve what you do not notice; we must intentionally look for those with "dirty feet" (needs) around us.

  2. Requires Stooping: True service involves laying down one's rights, privileges, and comfort to meet others where they are.

  3. Sustained by the Cross: Service is not just random acts of kindness but is rooted in the gospel; it is sacrificial and fueled by the example of Jesus' love.

  4. Brings Blessing: There is an "upside down" blessing in serving others, as found in John 13:17.

  5. Shapes God's Church: Every member is part of the "battleship" (the church), and active service from everyone is essential for the body to function.

  6. Prepares Us for Eternity: Every act of service is kingdom work and prepares us for eternity.

In God’s kingdom, greatness is defined by the towel of a servant, not a crown or title. Service is not about obligation or guilt, but about the freedom to echo the love Christ demonstrated on the cross. Whose feet might God be calling you to wash this week?
