Encourage

"Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing."

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Encouragement is a vital, Holy Spirit-driven mission for every believer. Biblical encouragement is not flattery or positive personality traits, but the act of coming alongside others to pour courage into weary souls, reflecting the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Core Principles of Gospel-Shaped Encouragement:

  • Seeing: Encouragement begins with sight—not just noticing people in a crowd, but truly seeing them as individuals with stories, needs, and potential for redemption, just as Jesus did.

  • Listening: Gospel-shaped listening requires humility and patience. It is the art of being "quick to listen and slow to speak," creating a space where the other person feels understood and valued rather than just fixed or corrected.

  • Speaking Life: Words have the power to bring life or death. The goal is to speak truth seasoned with grace, reminding one another of God's promises and the reality that Christ is sufficient, rather than relying on empty cheerleading.

  • Strengthening Faith: True encouragement is the transfer of one's faith into the hearts of another. By pointing one another back to the Gospel, we anchor souls and help others maintain their grip on hope when life becomes overwhelming.

Scripture emphasizes  four aspects of the church's calling—connect, equip, serve, and encourage. They are not separate tasks but a unified response to the Gospel, all pointing back to Jesus as the ultimate example of this ministry.
